Crisis Response: How the BMA Manages Communication & Coordination

In December 2022, a local family in Borrego Springs faced the unimaginable just before Christmas—a devastating fire destroyed their home. While the family escaped physical harm, the emotional and psychological impact of such a loss was profound.

Immediate Response and Community Support

As soon as the Borrego Ministers Association (BMA) learned of the tragedy, we, along with other local partners, sprang into action. The family was temporarily hosted by extended relatives, but the BMA’s role went beyond immediate shelter. We quickly mobilized the community to collect and store donations, ensuring the family had the essentials they needed while working to secure a new home.

Coordinated Cleanup Efforts

One of the challenges the family faced was the requirement to pay for space rent until the debris from the fire was cleared. Understanding the urgency, BMA volunteers coordinated cleanup efforts, ordering dumpsters and organizing teams to assist with debris removal. This allowed the family, who were working during the day, to focus on rebuilding their lives in the evenings.

The Role of the BMA in Crisis Management

The BMA is often the first organization contacted in times of crisis in Borrego Springs.
